Check Out These Dogs. (No, Literally)

Love all of the positive pittie comments! And thanks to RW for posting this article! To the commenter who posted around the picture of the pit bull.Yes, Emerson is a pit-mix; she's a wonderful, gentle, timid lady who is bemused as to why she was dumped in a shelter by a house she trusted.I have personally run her numerous times and she is an angel. 80-90% of the dogs we play with at the shelter are pit mixes.

isconceptions such as the one you posted, unfortunately makes it harder for these dogs to feel loving, stable homes which is why so many of them sit in shelters for months on end.Thousands of dogs are euthanized in our city every year because of myths and misconceptions.I'm thrilled that Emerson (the dog in the photo) is secure at PhillyPAWS.org, a no-kill shelter. She will receive a prospect at life. Many of these wonderful dogs will not. I recommend you to lead to your local shelter and get to live a pit.I guess you'll be agreeably surprised. Pits are also_ hands down_ the best running partners!I share my living with a wonderful pit-whippet (a bullwhip! mix named Lola who is my favorite running buddy. She is faithful, loyal and ridiculously easy to train. Most of the rescued pits we run with are glad to step right by your face and are natural runners. It's incredible. If anyone would wish to get a similar plan in your hometown - it's easier than you think.Simply get involved with your shelter.Volunteer as often as you can and get to recognize the shelter's policy and regulations.Team up with a local trainer to develop an orientation that the shelter feels comfortable with.Start a facebook page, contact local running clubs, etc to get the book out. This entire process has been nothing short of amazing for not only the dogs, but likewise for our volunteers. And it could be implemented anywhere. If anyone has questions about starting a functional group at their shelter, they can always contact us for tips. We're glad to apportion the knowledge.
