MI: Ypsilanti Township - MSN for Pit Bulls - Pitbulls : Go Pitbull .

A sunset clause was added to the regulation at this second reading. MSN for pit bulls will begin January 1, 2011. To be revisited near the end of 2011 (need to control this) Many pit bull advocates stepped up and covered much of ground opposing the ordinance. Special thanks to Stephanie from Pit Bull Rescue Central (PBRC), and Deniece and Jennifer from The Buster Foundation.

It was great to see everyone there, thank you for all your grueling study and bravery in getting up to talk so articulately and thoughtfully. Special thanks to Lori from Indy Pit Crew, for all her advice, information, and encouragement. Thank you to all the Trustees for winning the sentence to hear to everyone who spoke, and for their involvement in obtaining further educational materialswhich we presented to them after the meeting. The Trustees also thanked everyone for their well-thought out, and informative emails and telephone calls prior to the meeting. Trustee Mike Martin was the only Township Trustee who voted against the mandatory spay/neuter ordinance for pit bulls. Other Trustees indicated they saw both sides of the issue, but declared that they trusted the Humanist Order of Huron Valley (HSHV)and since HSHV requested the ordinancethey wanted to make it a try to see if it works. HSHV shelter workers and volunteers came out in full power to living the ordinance. They played a short video at the origin of their presentation, which focussed on viewing the many pit bulls in their shelter. A great grouping of shelter workers, volunteers, and the shelter's two cruelty investigators got up to share stories of the pledge of pit bulls in Ypsilanti Township. HSHV's Executive Director, Tanya Hilgendorf believes mandatory spay/neuter will help pit bulls in the community. Just a pair of quotes from her speech tonight: "You can trust us, we aren't going to dig our heels in if it's not working" "We desire to discourage dogfighters from approaching into our community. you cannot push a spayed/neutered dog" "Mandatory spay/neuter is a utilitarian tool to prevent abuse, neglect, and overpopulation" ".it will prevent needless euthanasia" Both the Trustees and HSHV stated that if mandatory spay/neuter does not work, they leave not pursue additional breed-specific ordinances. - Diana McKay WonderBull: Pit Bull EducationWonderBull
